Golden Globes Go Both Glamour and Garbage

On Sunday, January 16, 2011 the stars came out to celebrate the 68th Annual Golden Globe Awards live from the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, CA.  While some stars looked “golden”, others forgot to look in their mirror.
Angelina Jolie look stunning yet sophisticated in a long sleeved flowing emerald Atelier Versace gown.  The emerald green against her golden skin and chocolate brown hair was the perfect combination.  Mom-to-be Natalie Portman was “glowing” in a strapless, pink and red draped satin gown by Viktor and Rolf.  The gowns drapery flowed perfectly against her growing belly, allowing it to be slightly hidden.  However, I did not like the red rose that looked like it was growing out of her chest and then just floating there.  It caught my eye in a bad way.  Country singer Carrie Underwood was definitely a nominee for my “best dressed” list, owning the red carpet in a sparkling full sequin sweetheart gown.  Her neatly done updo, clutch, heels and jewelry completed the look, making her look extremely classy.  Olivia Wilde brought the stars to the red carpet, literally.  Her sparkling and glittering rich chocolate brown ball gown by Marchesa covered in sequin gave the illusion that she was a galaxy full of stars.
“Whoopsie daisy” Michelle Williams, to say the least.  Was this hand made? It looked like she grabbed some khaki fabric, picked some daisies from the garden, and sewed them on before catching her limo.  The gown was not flattering at all because it gave her no shape, and the color was so dreary that it just blended in to her skin. Rather than blooming, her flowers were duds.
She may be the host of “Project Runway”, famous for telling competitors every week that they are “out”, but for this award show, SHE should have been the one out.  Heidi Klum’s pink, brown, and cream draped gown made her look more like a twisted ice cream cone than a fashion icon.  The pink and brown cluster of fabric that was placed at her waistline added bulk and weight and was not flattering at all.  Leighton Meester, known for her role as the always stylish and fashion forward Blair Waldorf on the CW’s “Gossip Girl” experimented with a look from the past.  The puffy-shouldered, long sleeved nude toned gown washed her out completely, and made her look more like a grandma than a fashionable twenty something.
While some stars looked like “golden globes” themselves, others deserved zero votes.  After all, you can’t win them all..
